The Infotech® Mobile Inspector® app gives field inspectors the flexibility to create daily reports from a mobile device even if they aren't connected to the internet.
With the Measure Service feature enabled, inspectors can import measurement data directly from a third-party application into a Mobile Inspector report.
Get started
Step One
First, you'll need to set up the Mobile Inspector web application on your selected device. You must use Mobile Inspector, Appia, and your third-party software on the same device.
The Mobile Inspector setup guide will walk you through installing Mobile Inspector, registering your device, and syncing your Appia project to the Mobile Inspector web app.
Step Two
Next, you must configure your third-party device and software for use with Mobile Inspector.
Consult the documentation for your third-party software, or contact your device dealer for assistance.
To import measurement data into Mobile Inspector, you must enable the Measure Service connection in two places: within Mobile Inspector, and in your third-party software.
Turn on Measure Service in Mobile Inspector
- In the Mobile Inspector application, click About.
- Click Measure Service.
- Click the Enable Measure Service toggle to the on position.
Turn on Measure Service in your third-party software
Refer to your third-party software's documentation to enable the Measure Service within your particular software.
Use Measure Service
The Measure Service sends item data from Appia, via Mobile Inspector, to your third-party device's software to allow for accurate measurement data. To send item data to your third-party software, you have to add an item posting in Mobile Inspector.
- In Mobile Inspector, find your project and add a report. Enter the weather, remarks, and other information as needed.
- Go to Postings > Add Posting.
- Select an item and enter the quantity placed. You can also select the fund package and contractor, if needed.
- When you are finished, click Measure Service. The item data will be sent to your third-party software.
When you're finished using both applications, lock the daily report and sync the data with the Appia service.
Here are some helpful tips and troubleshooting information for using the Measure Service with Mobile Inspector and your third-party device.
Helpful tips
- Have the correct project open in both the Mobile Inspector service and your third-party software before opening your measure requests.
- Determine what units your third-party software measures, so you know what type of item units you can use.
- For items that you have not yet measured in your third-party software, the Mobile Inspector service will flag the item as Pending Measurement Service.
- When sending information from your third-party software to the Mobile Inspector application, the third-party software might send additional files -- such as a JSON or CSV file -- to Mobile Inspector, which will store the file(s) as an attachment.
- Once the measurements are shared with your third-party software, the Mobile Inspector service displays the information in the daily report, including calculated quantity and other details.
- Remarks are only shared for point measurements.
- When you're finished in your third-party software and Mobile Inspector apps, lock the daily report and sync the data with the Appia service.
Troubleshooting
- Item was measured as a point instead of its actual unit
-
If the item's unit in Mobile Inspector doesn't match the unit's spelling in the third-party software, the item will be measured as a point.
Example: the unit "cubic yards" may work if written as CY but not C.Y. Contact your third-party software's documentation or support for help.
- Measurement information not showing in Mobile Inspector
-
There may be information measured in your third-party software that does not display in Mobile Inspector and Appia. This means there is no accommodating field in the service(s).
- Third-party software not showing item information
-
If you cancel a request or delete an item from the daily report, your third-party software won't be able to access the item.
- General assistance
- For help with your particular third-party software and device, consult their help documentation or customer support.
